Hello and welcome to the introductory week of the program.  This will be the typical format for each week’s information.  Take this week to get comfortable with the website and format of the program.  Note the many important links in the right side bar and the top navigation bar.<br />
Begin by viewing the <a href="http://mikereinold-shoulder-seminar.blogspot.com/2009/08/instructions.html">instructions page</a> to get a better understanding of the website.  You can also review <a href="http://mikereinold-shoulder-seminar.blogspot.com/2009/08/course-information.html">information about the course</a> and preview the <a href="http://mikereinold-shoulder-seminar.blogspot.com/2009/08/schedule.html">complete weekly schedule</a>.  Each lesson will run from Thursday to Wednesday.  Each Thursday morning a new lesson will be posted to view.  If possible, try to go through the assignments and join the discussion board by the end of the weekend.  This will allow more time to interact and discuss for the rest of the week and allow the group to move on to the next lesson.</p>
<h3>Video</h3>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="475" height="358" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6149635&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="475" height="358" src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6149635&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<h3>Reading Assignments</h3>
<p>This week’s activities are not part of the main curriculum but an important part of understanding evidence based practice.  Again, the purpose of this first week is to get comfortable with the website and format prior to beginning the formal program.  While you get comfortable, I thought this would be a good time to introduce some topics related to evidence based practice if you need a refresher.</p>
<h3>Presentation</h3>
<p>Before we get into some of the details of evidence based practice, I have prepared a brief presentation on some of my thoughts regarding evidence based practice and how we can assure that we use it appropriately:<br />
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="475" height="356" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6711831&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="475" height="356" src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6711831&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<div>The next item is a nice presentation from the Emory School of Medicine posted by Dr. Victor Castilla from the blog <a href="http://web2097.blogspot.com/">Web 2.0 and Medicine</a>:</div>

<h4>Websites</h4>
<p>There are also some websites that I also recommend you visit if you would like to explore more information on the topic of evidence based practice:</p>
<ul>
<li><a title="http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/welcome.htm" href="http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/welcome.htm">http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/welcome.htm</a> – A joint effort between Duke University and the University of North Carolina.  A great site, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of each page and click “next” to view the site in order.  Also, I enjoyed the physical therapy case study at the end: <a title="http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/Supplements/Testingcase2.htm" href="http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/Supplements/Testingcase2.htm">http://www.hsl.unc.edu/services/tutorials/ebm/Supplements/Testingcase2.htm</a></li>
